Autumn Leaves
This tree is just right around the corner from me. When autumn comes, the leaves turned a incredibly deep red. It such an eye catcher when I walk by.

Fong Farms
For the July Art & Ag Project, the artists were invited to Fong Farms. Owned by my husband’s cousin, the farm has been in the family for many years. I had visited the farm with my sons but when I visited the farm as an artist it took on a different look. I was attracted to the different layers of fields and the purplish, pink sky of early morning.
I did a quick oil study, about 6 x 8, catching the colors of the sky and the safflower fields way in the back. The painting was completed from the study and the photos I had taken.

Another attempt at strictly palette knife painting. I like the idea of palette knife painting. It’s definitely cleaner than using brushes. No gamsol, just paper towels. There are two artists who are palette knives painters, Sharon Sprung and Christopher Gallego . Instead of the rough textures that I get their paintings are smooth.

Sunlit Fields
The photo reference was taken probably on my way to Napa. Beautiful rolling hills with grapevines and distant mountains.
I wanted to try my hand using just a palette knife, the one that I mixed my paints with. No brushes. Cleaning was so easy, just a wipe with a paper towel. No gamsol!

The Art Farm Gala at Hotel Woodland
Cloverleaf Farm, 6 x 8 inches, oil, 2015
The year round project of the Yolo Arts Art and Ag Project climaxed in the Art Farm Gala at the Hotel Woodland in Woodland, CA. The farmers and ranchers opened up their gates for artists to interpret the beautiful landscapes around the areas. It’s a way of preserving the land.
The Art Farm Gala is the collections of all the artworks done at the farms through out the year. There are two exhibits, the Art Harvest, where buyers purchased a $225 ticket “shovel” to harvest a painting. And in the Silent Auction, artworks juried in by Diana Daniels of the Crocker Museum, were auctioned off.
I’m happy to say that “Cloverleaf Farm” was shoveled and harvested. And the juried “Oakdale Farm” was sold in the Silent Auction. But what was nice to hear that Diana Daniels, the juror would had love to buy Oakdale Farm herself.
